Profile Information
The BT Melodians Steel Orchestra (BTMSO) can rightly claim to represent the pinnacle of Steelpan music in the UK today. Led by 'Steelpan Ambassador' Terry Noel, the orchestra has played all over the UK, and abroad, for high ranking dignitaries and public alike.
Since its formation in September 1987 the award-winning BTMSO has provided opportunities for young people from varied social and racial backgrounds to develop musical skills and techniques, and has developed a huge repertoire, including classical, modern, calypso, pop and jazz compositions.
Some very significant London bookings have included three performances at garden parties held in Buckingham Palace and eight consecutive performances (1994-2001) at the Commonwealth Day Service in Westminster Abbey, in the presence of Her Majesty the Queen and other members of the Royal Family.
The versatility of the orchestra's repertoire is legendary and the orchestra maintains close links with the historic Melodians Steel Orchestra in Arima, Trinidad. The members of the BTMSO range in age from 12 to over 21 and are drawn from all walks of life. The orchestra membership is comprised 31 musicians. Depending on the function, any number will play up to the full complement for formal concerts or major functions.
The BTMSO will bring sunshine to your event no matter what the weather!
